The Modi government was formed after the general elections held in 2014. The Council of Ministers in the Modi government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office in May 2014. The Digital India Programme, one of the most famous schemes launched Modi government targets to transform India into a digitally empowered economy. The programme ensure that services provided to the society by the government are available electronically and people get benefit of latest information and communication technology.

Important Projects under Digital India Programme:

Digital Locker System: This project aims at minimising usage of physical documents and enabling sharing of e-documents across agencies.

MyGov.in: This is for citizen engagement in governance through a ‘Discuss’, ‘Do’, and ‘Disseminate’ approach.

Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Mobile App: This is an app through which people and government organisations can achieve the Swachh Bharat Mission goals.

eSign: Allows citizens to digitally sign a document online using Aadhaar authentication.

National Scholarship Portal: This portal provides every little detail about scholarship process right from student application submission, verification, sanction and disbursal to end beneficiary for all the scholarships provided by the Government of India.

Bharat Net: An initiative to connect all 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats of India. This would be the world’s largest rural broadband connectivity project using optical fibre.

Next Generation Network (NGN): This is an IP based technology which will replace thirty year old exchanges and will manage all types of services like voice, data, multimedia/video and others.

The Smart Cities Mission initiative is to promote economic growth and improve quality of life of people by enabling local development, and harnessing technology as a means to create smart outcomes for the citizens. The focus of the mission is on sustainable and inclusive development, and the idea is to look at compact areas, create a replicable model which will act like a light house to other aspiring cities.

Skill India:

Skill India Mission is an initiative against poverty in order to eradicate it from India. One of the schemes launched by Modi government in 2015, Skill India was launched in order to help India emerge as the human resource capital of the world. This government aims to train over forty crore Indians in different skills under this scheme.

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana:

One of the schemes launched by Modi government in 2015, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana provides better future to girl child in India. The scheme focuses to cope-up with higher education and marriage requirements of girls in India. This scheme also provides benefits on income tax.

Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana:

Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, one the most famous schemes launched by Modi government in 2015 was initiated to increase the insurance penetration level in India. Under this scheme, a person will be allotted Rs 2 lakh for accidental death aged between eighteen to seventy years old.

Pradhan Mantri Jeeva Jyoti Bima Yojana:

Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana is an insurance scheme which gives a life insurance of Rs 2 lakh with a premium of Rs 330 per year. This scheme is available for the age group between eighteen to fifty years old with bank accounts. This scheme will be linked to bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana scheme.

Atal Pension Yojana:

One of the schemes launched by Modi government in 2015, Atal Pension Yojana is a move towards the betterment of elderly people. This scheme involves providing income security for Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 to poor people working in unorganised sectors. This plan encourages them to save enough funds before their retirement.

Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana:

One of the schemes launched by Modi government in 2015, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana is and initiative to save and empower the girl child in India. This scheme will address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR). This initiative is being implemented through a national campaign and focussed multi-sectoral action in one hundred districts low in CSR throughout India.
